Seasonal work – Finland

Seasonal work – Finland

Seasonal work
Apply for a residence permit for seasonal work if your work is in the field of agriculture or tourism and is tied to a certain season.

The types of seasonal work to which the Seasonal Workers Act is applied include agricultural and garden work, forestry and work in the tourism sector. The Seasonal Workers Act also applies to temporary agency work. On our website you can find a detailed list of seasonal jobs.
This service is not intended for the employers of seasonal workers. The seasonal worker must have a personal account and make the application themselves.

You can have a seasonal job in Finland for no longer than nine months during a period of twelve months. In order to check this, we ask you to state in your application all periods within the twelve previous months that you have spent in Finland doing seasonal work.
If your job is not seasonal work or if you come to Finland to work for more than nine months or if you live in a member state of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, do not apply for a residence permit for seasonal work but apply for a residence permit for an employed person.

Apply for a first residence permit for seasonal work when your job in Finland lasts for a maximum of nine months. Also apply for this permit when you have worked in Finland with a visa for seasonal work or you have been granted a certificate for seasonal work and you will continue to work a seasonal job in Finland. You must apply for a first residence permit for seasonal work abroad before arriving in Finland. You can apply for a first residence permit for seasonal work while you are in Finland only if you hold a valid certificate for seasonal work or visa for seasonal work and intend to continue doing seasonal work in Finland. This means that if you are in Finland and plan to submit an application but do not have a valid certificate or visa for seasonal work, you should apply, for instance, for a residence permit for an employed person instead.

Apply for an extended residence permit for seasonal work when you have worked in Finland with a residence permit for seasonal work and will continue to work a seasonal job in Finland. Please note that you can apply for an extended permit for seasonal work only if you hold a valid residence permit for seasonal work and are applying for an extended permit in order to continue doing seasonal work in Finland immediately after your previous permit expires. If you have some other residence permit than a residence permit for seasonal work (for instance, a residence permit for an employed person) and you wish to continue working in Finland, it is not possible to apply for an extended permit for seasonal work. Instead, you can apply, for instance, for an extended permit for an employed person.
Ask for a certificate for seasonal work when you come to Finland to work a seasonal job for no more than 90 days and you can travel to Finland without a visa. If you need a visa to travel to Finland, apply for a visa for seasonal work at a Finnish mission (embassy or consulate).

You can find more detailed information about residence permits for seasonal work on our website.
